The Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) expressed its heartfelt gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for signing Republic Act No. 12232, which officially postpones the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to November 2026, effectively extending the term of incumbent village officials.

During a meeting at Malacañang Palace, LnB officials led by National President Maria Katrina Jessica Dy personally handed over Resolution No. 13-2025, commending the President for his “invaluable support” in enacting the law. The resolution highlighted the importance of continuity in local leadership and praised the administration’s responsiveness to grassroots concerns.

President Marcos used the occasion to discuss reforms aimed at strengthening barangay governance. Among the proposals were mandatory leadership training, the institutionalization of a Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB), and support for legislative priorities such as the Magna Carta for Barangay Officials and amendments to the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act.

The President emphasized the critical role barangays play in national development and encouraged LnB to work closely with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to implement capacity-building programs. He also assured the group that local government leagues would be consulted in the restructuring of performance frameworks under the SGLG.

Representing over 42,000 barangays nationwide, the LnB continues to champion community-centered leadership under the guiding principle of “Serbisyong May Puso”—service with compassion, integrity, and dedication.
