The Philippine government is optimistic that its newly launched electronic visa (eVisa) system for Chinese nationals will help revitalize the country’s tourism sector and modernize consular services.

On Monday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) officially rolled out the eVisa platform, allowing travelers from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau to apply for single-entry visas valid for 14 days entirely online. The system is accessible 24/7 and eliminates the need for in-person submissions, significantly reducing processing time.

“This initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to digitize public services and revitalize the tourism sector,” said Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime FlorCruz in a statement quoted by PNA.

Chinese travelers eligible for the eVisa must enter the Philippines through either the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila or the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu. For longer stays or entry through other airports, traditional visa applications remain available via VFS Global centers in major Chinese cities.

The launch was marked by ribbon-cutting ceremonies at Philippine diplomatic posts in Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, and Xiamen. FlorCruz also highlighted China’s recognition of the Philippines as a prime travel destination, citing the country’s recent “Island Charm Award” at the 2025 Beijing International Diving & Resort Travel Expo.
