President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. officially concluded his participation in the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits in Malaysia, following three days of high-level meetings and bilateral engagements focused on regional cooperation, economic integration, and sustainable development.
During the closing ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, President Marcos Jr. received the symbolic ASEAN Chairship gavel from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, marking the formal transition of leadership and the beginning of the Philippines’ preparations to host ASEAN 2026.
The summit brought together ASEAN Leaders and Dialogue Partners for a series of productive discussions aimed at strengthening regional ties and addressing shared challenges. President Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines’ steadfast commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity across Southeast Asia.
“The Philippines is honored to take on the Chairship of ASEAN 2026,” President Marcos Jr. said. “We look forward to advancing our collective goals and building a resilient, inclusive, and dynamic region.”
The handover sets the stage for the Philippines to lead ASEAN’s agenda in the coming year, with expectations of continued collaboration on climate action, digital transformation, and inclusive growth.
