President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally administered the oath of office to retired General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. as Undersecretary of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) during a ceremony held at Malacañang Palace on Thursday.
Acorda, who served as the 29th Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from April 2023 to April 2024, brings decades of experience in law enforcement and intelligence operations. A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991, he previously held key positions including Director for Intelligence, Regional Director for Northern Mindanao, and founding head of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
The PAOCC, established under Executive Order No. 295 in 2000, is tasked with investigating and prosecuting organized crime syndicates and corrupt officials. It also conducts intelligence operations and formulates anti-crime strategies.
Acorda succeeds Gilbert Cruz, who had served as undersecretary since January 2023.
The appointment is seen as part of the Marcos administration’s continued efforts to intensify its campaign against organized crime and corruption.
