President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the immediate construction of 150 modular shelter units for residents displaced by the twin earthquakes that struck the province on October 10, 2025. In a situation briefing held outside the Tarragona Municipal Hall, the President emphasized the need for more durable and comfortable housing compared to traditional tent cities.
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will begin installing the shelters on Friday, with occupancy expected by Monday. Each unit will include toilets, water and electrical supply, and communal kitchens, under the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP). The move follows similar deployments in Cebu last month, as part of the administration’s push for climate-resilient and humane disaster response.
