In the wake of a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Davao Oriental on October 10, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered all frontline government agencies to launch round-the-clock rescue and relief operations to aid affected communities.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed the directive, emphasizing that the President’s paramount concern is the safety and well-being of residents in the quake-hit areas. “All concerned agencies have been tasked to work without pause to deliver immediate assistance,” Gomez stated.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) clarified that the Davao Oriental quake is not connected to the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu on September 30. Despite this, President Marcos has instructed agencies to extend support to all regions impacted by recent seismic activity, ensuring no community is left behind.

Relief efforts include search and rescue missions, medical aid, and distribution of essential supplies. The government is also assessing infrastructure damage and coordinating with local officials to restore services and ensure public safety.

This decisive action reflects the administration’s commitment to disaster preparedness and rapid response, reinforcing public trust in times of crisis.
