President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday praised the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for its recent strides in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and expanding international military cooperation.

Speaking at the oathtaking ceremony of newly promoted generals, flag officers, and junior officers from Foreign Pre-Commissioned Training Institutions (FPCTI), President Marcos highlighted the AFP’s active participation in joint and multinational exercises such as Balikatan 40, ALON, and Talisman Sabre. These engagements, he said, are vital to enhancing the Philippines’ defense posture and readiness amid evolving regional challenges.

“The recently conducted Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activities with Australia, Canada, the United States, and India enhanced our maritime cooperation and interoperability,” the President noted during the ceremony held at Malacañan Palace. “These engagements serve as blueprints for readiness and stand as proof of our shared commitment to regional stability amid growing complexity.”

President Marcos also acknowledged the successful deployment of nearly 1,000 AFP personnel and assets to Myanmar, underscoring the military’s role not only as defenders of the homeland but also as reliable partners in regional humanitarian missions.

On the domestic front, the President reported that more cities and provinces have been declared as areas of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS), reflecting continued progress in the nation’s peace-building efforts.

He further emphasized the importance of modernizing the AFP through advanced training and global exposure. The commissioning of 14 new second lieutenants and ensigns from top foreign military academies, he said, represents a “fusion of global expertise with Filipino valor.”

“Their overseas training is expected to bring strategic insights and broadened perspectives—precisely what our modernizing Armed Forces need at this crucial time,” Marcos added.

A total of 29 newly promoted generals and flag officers, along with 14 newly commissioned junior officers, took their oath during the ceremony.
