In the wake of the powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu on the evening of September 30, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) has launched a coordinated relief operation to assist affected communities across the province.

Vice President Sara Z. Duterte has ordered the immediate deployment of aid through the OVP Satellite Office in Cebu, directing resources toward families and individuals displaced by the tremor. The initiative is being spearheaded by the OVP’s Disaster Operations Center, which is working closely with local government units and disaster response agencies to assess urgent needs and deliver assistance.

“The OVP stands with the people of Cebu during this difficult time,” the office said in a statement. “We will continue to extend support and coordinate closely with national agencies and private partners to ensure that immediate needs are met.”

Satellite offices in Eastern Visayas, Panay, and Negros Islands have also been placed on standby for possible augmentation, should additional support be required in the quake-hit areas.

Relief operations are currently being scheduled, with teams facing logistical challenges due to impassable roads, particularly in Northern Cebu. The OVP emphasized its commitment to swift and responsive action, noting that its Disaster Operations Center remains in close contact with the Cebu Provincial Government to monitor developments and determine further assistance for recovery and rehabilitation.
