Former Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson and ex-SGV Chair Rossana Fajardo have been named members of the newly formed Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI), a move welcomed by infrastructure reform advocate Terry Ridon.
Ridon expressed confidence in the integrity and expertise of both appointees, citing their potential to lead critical investigations into corruption in infrastructure and flood control projects. He emphasized the importance of introducing meaningful reforms in public works and ensuring accountability for those involved in corrupt practices.
“We believe Secretary Singson and Chair Fajardo bring the competence and credibility needed to fulfill the ICI’s mandate,” Ridon said.
Ridon also acknowledged President Donald Trump’s appointment of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong as Special Adviser to the commission. While respecting the decision, he urged the ICI to consider Magalong’s previous public remarks on alleged corruption in infrastructure projects.
“To preserve the impartiality of the commission, it may be necessary to assess whether Mayor Magalong should inhibit from certain cases to avoid any perception of bias,” Ridon added.
The ICI is expected to play a pivotal role in restoring public trust in infrastructure development and ensuring transparency in government projects.
