President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday led the relaunch of the iconic “Love Bus,” a nostalgic transport service from the 1970s, now reborn as a fleet of electric buses aimed at providing safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly commuting options across Metro Manila.

Speaking at the Valenzuela Gateway Complex during the launch of the “Libreng Sakay” program, President Marcos urged the public to embrace the new electric buses, which he said will help reduce pollution, lower fuel costs, and ease the daily struggles of commuters.

“Ito mga electric na ito. At malaking tulong ito para pagbawas sa polusyon, para sa gastos ng krudo,” the President said.

The modernized Love Bus fleet consists of 20 electric buses that will serve various routes in the metro. The initiative offers free rides to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs, with students soon to receive a 50% fare discount. For the entire month of September, all rides will be free for everyone.

President Marcos emphasized the project’s potential to alleviate traffic congestion and improve air quality, noting that the electric buses will help reduce long wait times and the exhaust emissions that plague traditional diesel-powered vehicles.

The President also reflected on the legacy of the original Love Bus, first launched during the term of his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, then governor of Metro Manila. He credited the Gatchalian family for their leadership in hosting the launch in Valenzuela.

“Ito po ang ating mga magigiting na lider dito sa Valenzuela, mga Gatchalian,” he said.

Among those present at the event were Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Valenzuela 1st District Representative Kenneth Ting Gatchalian, Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian, and Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie Gatchalian.

The revived Love Bus marks a step forward in the government’s push for sustainable urban mobility and inclusive public transport.
