Former Public Works Secretary Jose P. de Jesus has expressed strong support for newly appointed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, describing him as a leader with “strong political will and consummate competence” to steer the embattled agency through a period of intense reform.
In a media statement released September 1, 2025 De Jesus—who also previously served as Secretary of the then Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC)—commended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to appoint Dizon following the resignation of Secretary Manuel Bonoan
Dizon, who relinquished his post as Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), now faces the daunting task of untangling systemic issues that have drained billions of pesos from public coffers and left communities vulnerable to persistent flooding.
“Vince has only two major problems to deal with,” De Jesus noted. “First, he must resolutely confront politicians who demand ‘cuts’ from the public works budget. Second, he must ensure that construction projects are efficiently managed, with budgets protected and deadlines met.”
Drawing from his own experience under the administration of the late President Corazon Aquino, De Jesus acknowledged the political pressures that come with the role but emphasized the importance of executive backing.
“I was fortunate to have the solid support of President Cory. I hope Secretary Vince will have the same visible backing from President Marcos to shield him from political interference.”
De Jesus ended his statement by offering moral support to Dizon, expressing hope that the new DPWH chief will be empowered to lead the department with integrity and effectiveness during a critical time for infrastructure reform.
