Malacañang assured the public on Friday that national security forces are actively working to counter threats posed by foreign spies and alleged “sleeper agents.”
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro relayed a statement from the National Security Council (NSC) following Senator Panfilo Lacson’s warning about the presence of Chinese operatives embedded across the country.
“We cannot go into specifics for security reasons, but our forces are monitoring and responding to these threats. Espionage is taken seriously, and we act swiftly when intelligence is verified,” Castro said.
She added that recent operations have already led to arrests of suspected foreign agents, underscoring the government’s commitment to dismantling espionage networks.
In a related update, Castro confirmed that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has removed a businessman from its Auxiliary unit after discovering he had misrepresented his Filipino citizenship.
“The PCG continues its investigation. The individual in question has been delisted from the PCGA,” she said, clarifying that the Auxiliary is a civilian group with no access to sensitive operations.
Castro emphasized that PCG operations remain secure and uncompromised, reassuring the public that foreign members of the Auxiliary are limited to humanitarian and support roles.
