Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday called for the same focus on urgent national concerns that Congress has poured into the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte since its transmittal to the Senate in February.
“Hindi tayo makawala, eh. Ang daming mas importanteng isyu, pero nakapako tayo sa isyu na ito,” Cayetano said in his explanation for voting in favor of Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s motion to archive the articles of impeachment on August 6, 2025.
The senator stressed that while political investigations will continue, the same attention should be given to equally pressing issues.
He cited long-standing problems such as corruption, stunting, flooding, and the country’s growing debt as equally deserving of public scrutiny.
Cayetano reiterated that accountability must always be pursued, but it must be done at the right time and through the correct process.
“We in this room are all for accountability but tama y’ung sinabi ng Supreme Court na dapat ay sa tamang panahon at tamang proseso,” he added.
Cayetano urged his fellow lawmakers to match the months-long attention given to the Vice President’s impeachment with the same energy in addressing other national concerns.
