The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is in talks for piloting housing rental at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s flagship Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Expanded Program.

This, after DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, UP President Angelo Jimenez, together with DHSUD and UP officials met Thursday night in UP Diliman.

It was agreed during the meeting to operationalize the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered into previously by DHSUD and UP through a rental housing scheme for UP constituents.

Secretary Aliling vowed to provide funding support for the project.

“We will provide the necessary technical assistance to ensure the success of this collaboration.  Once approved, DHSUD stands committed to fund the land development portion for the pilot project,” Secretary Aliling said.

The proposed pilot project has the support of the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund, whose key officials led by CEO Marilene Acosta also attended the meeting.

Upon his assumption, Secretary Aliling ordered the expansion of recalibrated 4PH to include all modalities like horizontal socialized housing developments and rental housing.

Previously, 4PH was focused only on vertical developments or condominium-type housing projects intended for targeted beneficiaries.

Secretary Aliling immediately tasked his officials to work closely with UP management for the smooth implementation of the proposed piloy rental housing project under 4PH.
