The Department of Agriculture has officially lifted the temporary ban on the domestic and wild birds and their products including poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen originating from the State of Ohio, United States of America.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. signed the memorandum order no. 23 on Friday, rescinding the temporary import ban imposed in mid-January of this year due to a confirmed outbreak of High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) in the State of Ohio, USA.

The import ban had encompassed domestic and wild birds, along with their associated products such as poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen originating from the State of Ohio.

Sec. Tiu Laurel’s decision to lift the ban immediately was based on the official report submitted by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).

According to the report, all counties in the State of Ohio have successfully resolved avian flu cases, and no additional outbreaks have been reported after April 2. This clearance from the US Veterinary Authorities provided the necessary assurance for the Department of Agriculture to lift the import ban, allowing the resumption of trade in domestic and wild birds including poultry products from the State of Ohio, USA.
