The Bureau of Customs – Port of Clark, under District Collector Ricardo Uy Morales II, apprehended last June 26, 2023 an export shipment containing P1.794-million worth of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride otherwise known as Shabu bound to South, Korea.

The BOC discovered said illegal drugs in a shipment declared as “used MI Smart Speaker” shipped from Pasig City.

Initially tagged as suspicious by the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) personnel, the shipment was subjected to K9 sniffing by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 Unit which gave positive indications for the presence of dangerous drugs.

A physical examination was conducted by the assigned trade control examiner that led to the discovery of a speaker containing plastic pouch of crystalline substances.

Samples were turned over to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis, which identified the substances as Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or Shabu, a dangerous drug under the Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued by District Collector Morales against the shipment for violation of Section 118 (g), 119 (d) and 1113 par. (f), (i), and (l)-(3) and (4) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to R.A. No. 9165.

The Bureau of Customs, under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, remains steadfast with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to reinforce border protection measures and curb all forms of smuggling.
